Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI) formerly known as National Research Institute of Ayurvedic Drug Development and Central Research Institute of Ayurveda which was earlier established as Regional Research Institute (Ay.) on 1971 at Jagannath Dutta Lane, Kolkata and then the Institute was shifted to Bidhannagar, Kolkata on 1997 in its own building. Govt. of West Bengal had provided 3 acres land in the most posh area of Kolkata (SEZ) for the present campus.

He has completed his Ph. D. in Ayurveda (Kayachikitsa) from NIA, Jaipur, Jodhpur University, Rajasthan. He started his career at Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Ministry of Ayush in the year November, 1994 as Assistant Research Officer (Ay.) In-charge in THCRP, Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh. (NE Region), with responsibility in Monitoring Complete Administration of the THCRP, Ziro., Clinical. Research: THCRP, SOSS etc.
He was promoted to Research Officer (Ay.) In-chargeat THCRP, Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh (NE Region) in January, 1996. He also served as Research Officer (Ay) at RRI, Vijayawada (A.P.) from September, 1997. His research was focused on Project: 1. Tamaka Swasa (Br. Asthma), 2. Vyanabala Vaisamya (Essential Hypertension), and 3. RFD Projects (8 Nos) viz., a). Kamala, b). Kasa, c). Netraroga, d). Pravahika,, e). Grahani, f). Amavata, g). Sandhivata, h). Apabahuka,. and MCRU Programme.
Brief Introduction
Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI), Kolkata situated at 4 CN Block, Sector- V, Bidhan Nagar, Kolkata- 700 091 is a premier Institute under Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, New Delhi, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India and dedicated to the research of Ayurveda. This Institute has started its journey as the project named ‘Composite Drug Research Scheme(CDRS)’ at Shyamadas Vaidya Shastra Peeth, 294/3/1, Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road, Kolkata-700009 (presently known as Institute of Post graduate Ayurvedic Education & Research) on 1968 under leadership of Kj. S. K. Roy. In 1972, this Institute had been shifted to its rented house at Laxmibilash Bhawan, Jagannath Datta Lane, Kolkata as Regional Research Institute (Ayurveda)[RRI(Ay.)] and started its activities through OPD, IPD and Pharmacy.
RRI(Ay.), Kolkata was shifted its own building along with 3 acre premise on 17.03.1997 which was provided by the Government of West Bengal at present address which is now most posh area of the city. RRI(Ay.), Kolkata had been upgraded as Central Research Institute (Ayurveda)[CRI (Ay.)], Kolkata on 01.11.1999 with the mandate of drug development and different units of Chemistry, Pharmacognosy and Pharmacology were amalgamated under the single umbrella.

The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) is an autonomous body of the Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy), Government of India. It is an apex body in India for the formulation, coordination, development and promotion of research on scientific lines in Ayurveda and Sowa-Rigpa system of medicine.
